Sun, Aug. 12th, 2007, 02:01 pm Productivity
Do you find that your productivity goes through the roof when you have an I-don't-really-want-to-stand-up hangover. I do... I don't know if that's a good thing or what, but whatever. But back to writing and making myself a fried egg sandwich.
Sun, Aug. 12th, 2007, 05:32 am If this were...
If this were facebook I would be not Jordie is not sober right now. Also Quinn did you make it home?
Sat, Jun. 30th, 2007, 02:42 am Ants on a Log
Who remembers Ants on a Log? That question was purely rhetorical, but you can answer if you really want to. It was one of my favourite snacks in preschool and daycare. Celery filled with cheese whiz or peanut butter and raisins (ants) evenly distributed by sticking them on the celery filling. My mom always made them when it was her turn to bring the snack for preschool/baseball team/whatever because it was "healthy". For those of you who were curious they are every bit as good as they used to be.
Sun, Jun. 17th, 2007, 10:31 am Bad Spock
Last night i came home from concerting and found out about Bad Spock. It's pretty awesome. People who are fairly decent artists draw Spock again and again badly. Also I just found out that my favourite author (Neil Gaiman) placed an award winning shortstory of his up online to read. So I'm going to go do that now. It's called How To Talk To Girls At Parties, but aside from that I know nothing about it. But hey I talk to girls at parties. You probably do to!
Mon, Jun. 4th, 2007, 08:32 am Back
Hey I'm back! It turns out I really missed my music. You probably don't find that surprising and I don't really either. It's so nice to be able to hear those songs that you think about while you're walking around though. You know the ones that sort of stick in your head until you get around to listening to it again. There's a buildup in my head of stuff like that.
This is perhaps the scariest collection of news I've seen in awhile. It's the Top 25 stories that never really made it into the mainstream media due to a inexplicable desire not to report on them. They're all seem pretty thoroughly researched by a nonprofit project run by the Sonoma State Uni., although this is the first time I've come across Project Censored. linky linky Wed, Mar. 14th, 2007, 11:41 am Mmmmm pi
Happy Pi Day! Sun, Feb. 18th, 2007, 11:15 am My other blog
So I made an other blog in the interests of blogging for people who aren't involved in livejournal (such as my parents and relations). This blog will be back in business when I get back, though. However, most of what happens in Ethiopia will be blogged about over there. Tue, Feb. 6th, 2007, 01:37 pm The time
It's the 1337 time of day. (also the 137 time of day on a 12 hour clock)
This Friday's Going Away Party will be happening without the originally planned dinner, however I will be drinking at the Brick House on Main near Chinatown around 9PMish and anyone who wishes to wish me a bonne voyage can come down and join me. Tell anyone who is interested. I will also send out an email. Jordie
Tue, Jan. 30th, 2007, 12:10 am An update
Things have been a little busy lately so I haven't really kept people informed of what's been going on in my life. I am definitely going to Ethiopia now as an IT Trainer at a Teacher's College in a city called Adewa. I'm working out what I should pack right now. I really have only a slight idea what I should bring since I can only take about one large suitcase full with me. It's hard to prioritize these things. Jess advised I pack lots of underwear which seems sound advice. I will be having a going away get together and seeing as I could be leaving on any day between the 11th and the 14th I'm going to ask that people put aside the 9th for an as yet undetermined get together in a restaurant followed by a bar. If I end up being in town for a few days after that I'll just pretend I don't know anyone I've already said goodbye, too. Speaking of my leaving Sarah, will be subletting my room while I'm gone so if you're missing me, just pretend she's me. There'll be some of my clothes in storage that you can make her wear and then you can make her only talk about music and computers. Anyhow I'll try my best to keep everyone in the loop about my going away get together. Jordie
Thu, Jan. 25th, 2007, 01:03 am Sleeping
I'm going to sleep until I can't possibly sleep anymore. It's going to be awesome. Goodnight everyone.
Tue, Jan. 23rd, 2007, 10:30 am Back in town
I am back in town for those of you who weren't informed by other means. I would write more, but I'm not surprisingly really busy. In brief though, Quebec was awesome. The food was fattier, the weather was snowier, and the people were frenchier. Exit stage passport office!
So I only had a very brief stay in Montreal. And yes Quinn I did have poutine while I was there in a bar with real cheese curds. They were disappointing, so I guess I just don`t get it. After an afternoon in Montreal which was freezing we quickly moved on to Orford where we are having a government training course. It`s really fun, but most of the people in the training course with me are francophone, so while it`s not hard to communicate with any of them one-on-one whenever they are in groups they quickly fall instinctively into French. There`s about 25 of us in all and most of them are from Montreal and have been training together for a couple months so it`s like falling into a really boisterous group of friends. The language barrier alone though makes socializing more difficult than I`d like, but on the other hand it`s probably easing me into what I should expect when I`m in Ethiopia*. The bar at this centre was advertised to have reasonably priced drinks so I was a little disappointed to find $5 drinks, until upon further research I discovered that that was the universal price for any drink, this included the Cutty Sark, which I greatly appreciated. In addition to that the bartender poured everything as a double,* making her probably my favouritest bartender ever. I had three of these, which was more than enough to do me in. I ended up serenading my neighbours with the Magnetic Fields in a drunken slurred voice while putting off going to bed doing this for about a dozen songs. They haven`t complained about it yet, but I`m terribly embarassed that I may have kept someone up. The Magnetic Fields have rapidly become my soundtrack for this trip and at the moment I`m not really listening to much beyond that. I`ve had my plans changed a few times as to where my placement will be which is driving me batty, but the absolute latest I will be going will be February 14th (Valentine`s Day on a plane). Currently I`ll be going to Ethiopia, which wasn`t my first choice, but I`m still really excited. *Ethiopia still isn`t confirmed, but it`s that or nothing. *Sometimes a triple.
Mon, Jan. 15th, 2007, 11:26 pm In Ottawa
I am sitting in snowy snowy ottawa right now on a computer in my hotel. From my previous post I've realized that some people don't even know what I'm talking about. So I recently got accepted to an overseas internship helping the developing world set up their internet infrastructure through a volunteer organization called VSO. I will likely be in Africa sometime in the near future doing just that. Right now though I am in our nations capitol and in a couple days I'll be in Quebec for training.
Right now though I'm starving because my plane in Toronto got cancelled and then delayed so I am extra late right now. Also I have to work on a feature for Streethawk while I'm travelling and some Discorder reviews. So I should go try and find someplace that's still serving food. If I have time I might walk down to look at the parliament buildings.
Jordie out Sun, Jan. 14th, 2007, 06:42 pm Woohoo
I got the job! Ottawa here I come! I'll probably be LJing a lot more in the near future.
I will be back in town after the training next Monday. Don't know where I'll be going overseas yet. Wed, Jan. 3rd, 2007, 01:10 pm My CV
So I'd never heard this expression before. After I filled out a job application that didn't allow me to include my own cover letter or resume, I get a request for my CV to continue the job application. I have never seen this acronym before so I promptly replied asking what it stood for. Apparently it stands for my curriculum vitae, which if you didn't know (I didn't) is the most pretentious name for resume ever. Jordie out
Sat, Dec. 30th, 2006, 01:19 pm New Years Party
For those of you who think you are really clever ducks and will come to our BYO Theme party with the theme of "No Theme" you should know that Alasdair will arbitrarily assign you a theme that is both humiliating and accurate. Then he will point and laugh. Alasdair is cruel that way. What have I been doing lately though? Sat, Dec. 16th, 2006, 03:38 am Val Kilmer
Happy Bday Quinn. Also I just got home and proceeded to watch the end of a movie on TV. Val Kilmer blew mymind . I am not at all sober and will now go to bed
